Toyota GAZOO Racing has won the FIA World Endurance Championships after successfully completing a grueling 6hr of SPA. Fighting through rain, sleet and for the first time ever snow.

Both Toyota’s battled through the first 3hrs until the #7 Toyota had to return to the pits for an unscheduled pit stop, a small sensor issue was the cause of the problems but where now back in the race in 19th and off the lead lap, down by 4.

Another period of snow saw the field return to wet tyres and then hail, which saw the return of the Safety car for a 25min period.

Now entering the final hour the #7 Toyota driven by Jose had risen up through the ranks to find himself in 6th, while the #8, which was being driven by Alonso in the final stint, had now managed to increase the teams lead by 1 lap, before a final red flag just moments before the scheduled end, saw the race end with the #8 Toyota winning the 6hrs SPA outright. The 3 Rebellion was 2nd and #11 SMP Racing 3rd

This is the second title for Toyota after the first in 2014, President Akio Toyoda had the following to say about the win and was confident the team could attempt a one-two in Le Mans next month.

“We still have one final race this season, the Le Mans 24 Hours race next month, the finale of the WEC super season. To achieve another victory will not be easy. In this race, we could not prevent a trouble on the car #7, and made the drivers frustrated. We will solve the problem surely and come to Le Mans with TS050 HYBRID which all the drivers can drive feeling safe and pleasant. “
